Profile: XTRIXSTEX
In a pop cultural landscape that demands constant access and opinion from artists, it is refreshing to come across a new artist that simply lets their talent speak for itself. With more than 10 single releases last year alone, the mysterious rapper-producer XTRIXSTEX has decided to let his music do the talking. Even though we are only a few weeks into the New Year, XTRIXSTEX has =released a number of singles already, continuing his incredible run from 2020. His latest release ‘Amazing (Baby)’ is perhaps his most impressive to date, with an infectious pop melody that perfectly compliments the hypnotic production.
Speaking about the new track, XTRIXSTEX said, "It really delves into the thoughts and feelings thrown up by past relationships, you know - the fear of not being good enough, but being stunned and overwhelmed by being with such an incredible person. The track really tries to encapsulate all of those emotions, so the listener could hear how in these relationships you get choked up sometimes, but there are highs as well. The good and the bad.”
Hailing from the East of England, XTRIXSTEX is a creative enigma, with his layered production capturing sounds from his wide-range of influences. If you listen closely enough and unpick the production, you can hear everything from 80s synth pop to alternative R&B to trap-focused rap.
Talking about his influences, XTRIXSTEX says, “even as a kid I listened to old school Motown, 70's/80's pop and soul. George Benson was a big influence that people might not expect, another one was A-Ha, I always enjoyed their stuff. Obviously, my more modern influences also directly influence the music I make – y’know, R&B, trap and hip-hop.”
Having started 2021 by carrying forward the traction he gained last year, XTRIXSTEX will be looking to really establish himself in the next 12 months. As an incredible artist with a lot of potential, he is definitely one to watch in 2021 and beyond.
