Mixtape Review: Nemzzz - Rent's Due
At 21, Nemzzz is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting and singular voices in UK rap. His new mixtape Rent’s Due is a confident, razor sharp next step that tightens his sound without smoothing off its edges.
Known for his understated but infectious delivery, Nemzzz doesn't need to shout to hold attention. Instead, he floats through beats with an effortless glide, always sounding a step ahead. There’s a quiet magnetism to the way he raps. It’s less about flexing dominance and more about moving with precision. Still, Rent’s Due lands with undeniable force.
Lead track “COLD” sets the tone: reflective, direct, and slightly detached. “When bread’s involved, them guys you’re tight with movin’ different” he notes, laying out the trust issues that come with growth. That blend of introspection and ambition pulses throughout the project.
Production-wise, the tape sees him double down on what he does best. Long-time collaborator Zel handles most of the beats, lacing the project with icy melodies, jazzy textures, and cinematic strings. Tracks like “DTM” and “NO DETAIL” stretch the sonic palette – stripped back, atmospheric, and polished without losing bite. It's slick, but still rugged where it matters.
When it comes to features, Nemzzz keeps it focused. “DILEMMA” sees him trade slick, bouncy flows with Central Cee, a highlight not just for the chemistry but for how each artist brings out something different in the other. Kyle Richh’s appearance on “MIAMI” adds another layer, offering a Brooklyn twist that blends with Nemzzz’s Manchester steel.
Elsewhere, “SORRY” finds him in a more vulnerable space, reflecting on the strain of balancing love and lifestyle over harp-laced drill. “TURKS AND CAICOS” and “BAD GAL RIRI” shift back into flex mode, all warm synths, club energy and casual one-liners.
What’s most impressive here is how dialled-in it all feels. There’s no filler, no forced crossover moments. Rent’s Due is lean, assured, and shaped by a clear creative vision. Nemzzz knows who he is and how he sounds, and he's not in a rush to chase anyone else's lane.
With a tape this strong, he doesn’t need to. Rent’s Due isn’t about arrival – it’s about evolution. And right now, Nemzzz is moving exactly how he’s meant to.
