Single Review: Cabbage - Get Outta My Brain

Two years on from their debut album Nihlistic Glamour Shots, Mossley five-piece Cabbage have just dropped their newest single ‘Get Outta My Brain’.

True to form, this single packs a punch from the get-go and plays on Cabbage’s ever-present punk rock roots. Inspired by Manchester’s ‘golden era of expression’, the full and layered sound is reminiscent of a kaleidoscopic fever dream; a cacophony of chaos and colour. The wailing background vocals add texture and an uncanny quality that leaves you wanting more. Paired with the twangy guitar and heavy drum beat, the song perfectly encapsulates all sides of Manchester’s façade; from dirty rock ‘n’ roll to dancefloor fillers.

Mirroring the hectic and aggressive spirit of 2020, this psychedelic track is a 3-minute adrenaline rush. Co-frontman Lee Broadbent said of the song: “The title of the track has two meanings and it’s about the balance of how the two meanings constantly fight each other – some people just want to run away and some people intoxicate themselves to run away.”

Cabbage’s new album Amanita Pantherina is set for release on 25th September - and if ‘Get Outta My Brain’ is anything to go by, we couldn’t be more excited.
