Single Review: Dame - Bite

Originally formed whilst studying at the University of Birmingham, DAME is a fresh, exciting alt-pop band. The band have toured around the UK, perfecting a killer live sound that has allowed their diverse fan bases to grow massively.

The track presents a unique soundscape blending R&B and Indie, being both rhythmic and smooth, with textural changes that develop throughout the track. A recurring syncopated guitar riff drives the music forwards from underneath Shannon’s smooth vocals.

After a build in texture and volume, the arrival of the chorus is climactic, bringing with it a sense of positivity. Its memorable melodies and thoughtful harmonies are very pleasant to listen to.

The texture strips right back after the chorus, the vocals are more airy and distant, accompanying a half-time feel in the rest of the band. The bass register is more prominent here, providing a sense of contrast to what we have heard so far.

Incessant syncopated ideas crafted through echoed vocals drive the build up to the final chorus. There are more layers to the chorus this time, thickening the texture to create even more climax. Shannon’s vocal embellishments in the final chorus are simply stunning.

From the driving rhythms to the catchy melodies, Bite is a fantastic song all-round. We now eagerly await DAME’s new EP, set to be released later this year.
