Single Review: Everything Everything - Violent Sun
‘Violent Sun’ is another spectacular teaser for Everything Everything’s upcoming album Re-Animator - set to be released on the 11th September. The newest single builds on the other tracks already released - ‘Planets’, ‘Arch Enemy’ and ‘In Birdsong’ - with the new track continuing to build anticipation for what is shaping up to be a phenomenal album.
Along with the new track is an accompanying video (below) - which was filmed following a fire at the band’s studio lock-up. The video features the burnt-out remains of their instruments, with these charred relics perfectly encapsulating the tonality of the track. The group capture the sadness of the situation with lyrics such as ‘and you know this will be gone in the morning’, while the track is elevated by a real sense of rebirth and optimism.
Jonathan Higgs, lead singer and director said that “‘Violent Sun’ is about the feeling that something terrible is approaching fast, and you want to hold on to this moment forever” - a sentiment that has never been more relevant than in these unpredictable times. The song succeeds in blending raw feeling and emotion with their characteristically upbeat sound and captivating vocals, creating a track that provokes an entire spectrum of emotions.
