Single Review: Great Adamz x Manuel Riva - Umada
There’s a very specific balance that a lot of crossover records aim for and rarely land - club weight without losing identity, and feeling without losing movement. “Umada” gets that right.
Bringing together UK Afrobeats riser Great Adamz and Romanian melodic house producer Manuel Riva, the track sits confidently at the intersection of Afro House and European dance production, but never feels forced or overworked. It moves naturally.
From the opening seconds, the intent is clear. A deep, rolling groove locks in early - bass-led, patient, and built for space rather than immediacy. The percussion has that ritual, almost hypnotic quality, giving the track a sense of momentum without ever needing to rush. This isn’t a drop-driven record - it’s one that builds, layer by layer, pulling you into its rhythm.
What really makes it land is how the vocal is used. Adamz doesn’t sit on top of the track in a traditional sense - his voice is woven into it. Lines drift in and out, looping, echoing, adding texture as much as melody. It’s a smart choice, and one that leans fully into the track’s club direction. The vocal becomes part of the groove rather than competing with it.
Riva’s production does the rest. There’s a cinematic quality to the way the track unfolds - subtle melodic lifts, atmospheric pads, and a clear understanding of pacing. Nothing feels rushed, nothing feels overcrowded. It’s controlled, but never sterile.
There’s also something bigger at play here. “Umada” feels like a genuine meeting point rather than a stylistic compromise. You can hear the Afrobeats warmth in the vocal delivery, but equally the structure and discipline of European house running through the production. It reflects where a lot of global dance music is heading - borderless, but still rooted.
At its core, “Umada” is a groove-first record. It’s built for movement, for long sets, for late nights rather than quick hits. But it carries enough identity to stand on its own outside of that too. A clean, confident crossover that understands exactly what it’s trying to do - and delivers it.
