Single Review: July 7 - Long Time No See

If someone were to say to you ‘Mancunian music’, your mind might jump to the muffled and distorted noise coming from a student union on a Friday night or thudding rave music that’d transport you back to the legendary Hacienda.

However, July 7’s single, ‘Long Time No See’ gives new meaning to the term ‘Northern Soul’, offering listeners a chilled-out and sensual track that is ready for the summer. It’s the kind of music you’d want to listen to pool-side, with a tranquil but enchanting vibe.

‘Long Time No Seeneatly demonstrates the distinctive sound of neo-soul and experimental hip-hop, meeting somewhere in between R&B and lo-fi hip-hop. It is yet another example of the burgeoning neo-soul scene that is forever evolving in the rainy city.

The vocals pair wonderfully with the reoccurring high note in the guitar, giving the song a sultriness that you wouldn’t expect in a typical lo-fi single. If you’re craving something that is both soothing, catchy and tender, this is what you should be listening to.
