Single Review: Lady Ice - No Silence
As one of Manchester’s very best MCs, we went into this new Lady Ice track with high hopes and luckily - we were not disappointed. The rapper has gone from strength to strength since her formidable track ‘First’ released late last year – and she has established herself as a voice who unreservedly speaks her mind with hard hitting lyrics that dig deep into her experience as a black woman in the UK.
This short 100 second track veers away from more conventional songs, forgoing a chorus, making it feel more like a story than just a song. It’s entirely original, completely focusing on its core message which exposes racism in its innumerable forms. The no nonsense music video, simply featuring Lady Ice and a megaphone, is a step away from her previous visuals. It is beautiful in its simplicity and does not detract from its message but rather enhances it. She comes across as strong, powerful and unafraid to speak her mind.
A highly relevant track you will find yourself returning to again and again, Lady Ice has certainly made her mark.
