Single Review: Lois Powell & Night Wolf - “Unstoppable”

There’s a quiet confidence to “Unstoppable” that reveals itself over time. Rather than demanding attention early, the track unfolds patiently, drawing on a blend of alt-pop, trip hop and cinematic influences to create something that feels immersive and carefully controlled. It’s atmospheric from the outset, but never distant - there’s a strong emotional core running through it that keeps everything grounded.

The opening moments set the tone. A distorted acoustic guitar introduces a slightly rough, textured edge, immediately giving the track a sense of weight. From there, the arrangement begins to widen, with subtle rhythms and ambient elements building beneath the surface. It leans into a moody, slow-burning space, prioritising feeling and movement over immediacy.

What stands out is the balance between organic and synthetic elements. There’s something almost timeless in the songwriting - a folk-pop sensitivity in the melody - yet it’s framed within a modern, cinematic soundscape. It feels like two worlds meeting: intimate and personal on one side, expansive and visual on the other.

Lois Powell’s vocal sits at the centre of that contrast. Her delivery is restrained but expressive, allowing emotion to come through without overreaching. The lyrics reflect resilience, but not in a polished or idealised way. Instead, they carry a sense of fragility - strength shaped by uncertainty rather than certainty.

Structurally, the track is built around restraint. It resists any early release, choosing instead to build gradually toward its closing moments. As it progresses, textures deepen, tension grows, and the arrangement begins to lift. When the final section arrives, it opens out into something far more expansive - soaring strings, a fuller vocal, and a clear sense of release that feels earned rather than imposed.

There’s also a strong visual quality throughout. The way the track evolves makes it easy to place within cinematic contexts - it feels designed to accompany movement, narrative, and emotional shift. That sense of space and pacing is a clear strength.

As a third collaboration, “Unstoppable” feels like a step forward. There’s a noticeable clarity in how the ideas are shaped and delivered, with both Powell and Night Wolf leaning fully into their respective strengths.

The result is a track that doesn’t rush to make its point, instead allowing it to surface naturally. Atmospheric, emotive and quietly powerful, “Unstoppable” lands with a sense of purpose that lingers beyond its final moments.
