Single Review: Red Rum Club - Eleanor

It’s really hard not to be swept along by Red Rum Club. As soon as you press play on ‘Eleanor’ – the new single by the Liverpool band - you are instantly captivated by the triumphant instrumentation that begins the track.

‘Eleanor’ is the band’s first release since their impressive debut album ‘Matador’ dropped in 2019 – and it continues the upbeat melancholy that their first record nailed so effortlessly.

Since then the band have built a dedicated fan-base on the back of their impressive live performances and were recently nominated for ‘Best Live Act’ at the Independent Music Awards.

The new single is a perfect track for the summer, with the synth bass in the background really driving the track forward and bringing a kind of 80s pop vibe as well as a very modern sound.

It’s a fist-pumping indie banger with a heartwarming tone and a positive message. Frank Doran, the band’s leader singer, said the new track is “about Tom’s (guitarist) partner, Eleanor. It was written as an aid to help her overcome an ongoing battle with mental health”.

It definitely succeeds in lifting the spirit, offering a much-needed pick-me-up in this strange summer. So, we recommend getting a glass of wine, sitting in the sun and listening to Eleanor on repeat.
