Originating in Manchester, The Covasettes combine a nostalgic indie-rock sound with a new, vibrant energy and a progressive outlook in their songwriting.

Their new single ‘Modern Rapunzel’ starts off with motor-rhythms and the lead singer’s melodic voice leading in the guitar chords, with the new song instantly captivating the listener and establishing a lively soundscape. Chris Buxton’s vocal sound is distinctive, and blends with the rest of the instrumental perfectly.

The texture becomes much more dynamic in the chorus, with rich, stacked chords emphasised by the increase in intensity. This makes the chorus quite climactic; with the melodic line being more spaced out and rhythmic, making it very catchy and memorable.

The backing vocals and intricate accompanying rhythms embellish the second verse. The texture of the track then becomes stripped back to just the bass line, before a drum kick into the melodic chord voicings heard earlier in the song. The final chorus is particularly climactic, as it brings the track to a close.

Akin to all The Covasettes’ music, ‘Modern Rapunzel’ is an uplifting song that makes the listener feel good. With upbeat and groovy rhythms this tune is crafted brilliantly, and is not one to miss.
