Pulp Announce First New Album in 24 Years, Share Lead Single ‘Spike Island’
Sheffield indie stalwarts Pulp have revealed More, their first studio album in nearly 24 years, set for release on June 6th via Rough Trade Records. The announcement comes alongside the release of the lead single, "Spike Island," marking the band’s return with fresh material since their 2001 album We Love Life.
The new track draws inspiration from the infamous 1990 Stone Roses concert at Widnes’ Spike Island, a moment often cited in British indie history for both its significance and technical issues. The single blends synths, violin, and slide guitar, showcasing the band’s characteristic fusion of cinematic sound and sharp songwriting.
Produced by James Ford, known for his work with Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines DC, More was recorded at Orbb Studio in London over a three-week period in 2024. The album features contributions from the late bassist Steve Mackey, who passed away in 2023, with two tracks recorded prior to his death.
More does not follow a strict thematic concept, instead capturing a broad emotional spectrum through a collection of songs reflecting the band’s evolution. Limited edition coloured vinyl pressings will be available, including special releases exclusive to Sheffield and independent record stores.
After decades of shaping the UK indie scene with hits like "Common People" and "Disco 2000," Pulp’s return signals a significant moment for fans and British music alike, delivering new material that honors their influential legacy while charting fresh territory.
