Single Review: Emily Rhodes - Weirdos

Preston singer-songwriter Emily Rhodes is an artist to look out for. Her 2019 debut single ‘Get Out of My Way’, led to her being noticed by BBC Introducing and securing a place on their stage at Lytham Festival. Now she’s back with new single ‘Weirdos’ - which illustrates a more melancholy side to Rhodes than her first release.

This melancholic feeling is perhaps down to a shift in sonic influences, with a much more folk-country vibe this time around compared to ‘Get Out of My Way’ - which had much broader indie-pop sound. However, both tracks showcase different elements of Rhodes’ songwriting ability, with ‘Weirdos’ highlighting the nuance of her musicianship. Her understated self-confidence and self-love really resonate in the new track, with her positivity beautifully countering the strange times we live in.

Ultimately though, this single succeeds because it is catchy and captures a sense of unashamed positivity. With the relaxed strings complimenting Rhodes’ undeniable vocals beautifully, this is an exciting and confident track from a compelling new artist.
