Single Review: Finn Forster - Lonely Nights

Finn Forster has music running through his veins. He began as part of family band The Shea Family and is now branching out on his own. His latest track ‘Lonely Nights’ shows his talent as a writer and vocalist.

This Middlesbrough lad is often put into the ‘indie’ bracket, but this song shows how versatile he can be. Forster announced the track on Facebook admitting it was ‘different’ from his usual style. He said it has ‘definitely got a different vibe about it so a bold move but one I’m immensely excited to be putting out’.

'Lonely Nights' is soulful and accomplished, with the addition of collaborator Frikhan’s rap-style vocals proving to be a perfect match with Forster’s soulful voice.

The lyrics always come second when writing a song, as Forster has admitted in previous interviews, and the melody here really does take centre stage. ‘Lonely Nights’ has a powerful bridge leading to a chorus where his folky vocals can really shine.

There is a real buzz about Forster on the North-east music scene. He has been around for several years now but seems to be one of those musicians who has taken inspiration and grown from the lockdown period. He wrote 2020 track ‘Four Walls’ in reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic. With several gigs in the pipeline, he has a lot to look forward to in 2021.

‘Lonely Nights’ follows Forster’s much more mellow ‘Four Walls’. This upbeat, positive track has dropped at the perfect time. The world is opening up and so, it seems, is Forster’s career.
