Single Review: JWestern - Call You Right Now

Leeds alt-pop newcomer JWestern makes his entrance flawlessly with his debut single, ‘Call You Right Now’.

It may surprise listeners unfamiliar his work that this artist isn’t from the sunny shores of LA, but actually from Leeds. Real name John Gooding, he has been creating his own hip-hop and jazzy beats since he was a teenager. His sound is soaked in a mixture of neo-soul and bedroom pop, delivered with a SoundCloud aesthetic.

On this mellow summery banger, JWestern’s laidback vocals perfectly encapsulate how he doesn’t want to call an unnamed girl, as his heart just simply isn’t a relationship that isn’t going anywhere. 

The smooth and sultry instrumental partnered with Gooding’s melancholic delivery creates a track that is easily one of the most confident debut releases of the year.

For a debut single, JWestern knocks it out of the park on ‘Call You Right Now’, and if this is anything to go by - JWestern could be at the start of a very exciting career. We can’t wait to hear more.
