Come for the cover art, stay for the melody – the new track from Lucia and the Best Boys is catchy, memorable and once again highlights the immense talent of the band.

Formerly known as simply Lucia, this Glaswegian outfit are led by lead singer Lucia Fairfull. Her richly textured, clear vocals are the highlight of ‘Perfectly Untrue’ – as her dreamy ‘oohs’ lull the listener into a psychedelic daze. Fairfull has spoken out about her experiences of sexual assault in music venues, and her inner strength comes through in the power of her voice.

Lyrically, the track is also powerful – in particular, the high drama of the second bridge. ‘Days go by but I don’t feel better/ Will you live in my mind forever?’, will resonate with any broken-hearted listener. Tied together with a gentle bassline, the single is faultlessly produced.

‘Perfectly Untrue’ functions as an apt soundtrack to these strange in-between times, as tighter lockdown measures are reintroduced amidst unseasonably warm weather here in the UK. It is a glittering ode to lost love, evoking heady summer nights of the past.
