Single Review: Matter of Mind - Oblivion
It’s easy to feel the confidence in ‘Oblivion’, the latest single from Stockport emo-rock quartet Matter of Mind. It’s a track that feels clean and polished in its musical presentation, while managing to dig into how quick and easy it is for young people to feel overwhelmed by the mess of the world we’ve been left.
This is a feeling that’s immediately stated by the opening line; ‘I just need a break from reality,’ lead singer J Albert tells his listener. It’s an idea that the band carry into the rest of the track, cemented by their characteristically strong guitar riffs and vocal harmonies.
The power of the song’s chorus is driven by Conor McQue’s dual skills of drumming and backing vocals, leaving the track reminiscent of the likes of Asking Alexandria, Crown the Empire, and Enter Shikari – tough company, to be sure, but Matter of Mind feel right at home in such a group.
