Single Review: Midnight Alleys - Sick Clown
The Dundee-based quintet Midnight Alleys have garnered attention in recent weeks with the release of their new single ‘Sick Clown’, a teaser for their upcoming debut album in the new year.
Neil Morrison, Ben Connelly, Fabio Whyte, Matthew Kermally and George Mackenzie have certainly paid their dues after breaking onto the local music scene in 2017. The boys have a lot to be excited about, and so do we if ‘Sick Clown’ is a foreshadowing of what’s to come.
From the first few seconds we are given an anticipatory introduction that has a certain classic 80s rock vibe. Morrison has a distinctive voice that can be identified within the first few smoky notes as belonging to him.
Morrison’s lead vocals are vibrant and fun - but are not the only thing to be celebrated about this track. ‘Sick Clown’ includes a jaw-dropping guitar solo and is a great follow up to their most recent release ‘So It Goes’ - the track which led to the band signing up with Deadly Records after a producer heard their performance on Radio 6.
We have heard several singles from Midnight Alleys in the past two years, with their upcoming debut album the culmination of their work so far. ‘Sick Clown’ keeps up with their psychedelic rock style, indicating the album will be a reflection of the identity the band has been cultivating since its inception.
After all, haven’t we all got a sick clown inside us waiting to come out? The track is an exciting introduction to Midnight Alleys evolving sound. Bring on the album.
