Indie scouse sensations The Merchants have released their new single ‘Together Alone’, after being met with a week’s delay. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. The long-awaited track begins with a laid-back acoustic guitar, stripped bare and begins with rough, gritty vocals as the bass guitar floods into the track. The Merchants reflect and relinquish their emotions in the new single, exuding both passion and honesty.

‘Together Alone’ is quite simply a break-up song, released two days before Valentines Day this beautifully written song may strike a chord with listeners, and serves to showcase what the band are really capable of. The message in the track conveys the harsh reality of leaving a loved one behind, but being plagued by the memories, good and bad, forever. With heartache and bitterness at the epicentre of this creation, The Merchants have done well to craft a song containing so much life - although the lyrics and underlying themes are somewhat sombre in nature. The track showcases a more vulnerable side to the band, shaped by the acoustic accompaniment and Harry’s melodious, full-bodied and raw vocals.

The early chorus is driven by the lyrics ‘I could feast on your mind forever, your creation invites me to the unknown.’ Paired with the band's signature earthy guitar rhythms, the emotional break-up song embeds the title throughout. The portrayal of emotions shows off raw acoustic talent, not just from lead singer Harry’s depth and range. The foursome somehow manage to effortlessly create music so monumental, you are captured after just one listen.

Fairly fresh to the Merseyside music scene, The Merchants formed at the beginning of 2019 and secured their first gig at iconic Liverpool venue the Zanzibar. ‘Together Alone' is an inherently human track that paints a picture of the dying embers of love. It has already garnered the attention from the likes of BBC Introducing Merseyside, showing that this single is a great addition to the already eclectic catalog of songs and talent that hail from the indie rock scene of Liverpool.
