Single Review: Will-Powerz - Hands of Time
UK rapper Will-Powerz ambition is let down by an underwhelming execution on his new single ‘Hands of Time’. This song promises more than it’s able to deliver as what are smooth flows with tight lyrics become saturated in an annoying beat, poor mix and subdued vocals.
Will has a great vocal tone which stands out when compared to other rappers. His nasally sound carries with it a punk aesthetic, which when paired with his lyricism gives the foundation of some great music. The same can be said for Snypa Delic who features on this track, again, fantastic lyricism, tone and flow that on any other song would sound great.
The issues with ‘Hands of Time’ start at the beat. A tinny bell pattern is looped over and over with up-tempo hi hats and a sub bass that come together to make something starting off as generic and quickly turning annoying. Not only that, but the beat is far too loud, to the point both rappers’ presence on the record is near enough drowned out.
The song also comes equipped with a misplaced chorus that sounds like it belongs on a Daughters B-Side. Out of key and dull, it cuts off any remaining momentum that ‘Hands of Time’ had going for it.
There’s no doubt Will-Powerz and Snypa Delic are talented rappers with promising futures, but their ability as lyricists is let down on this track thanks to poor production and song structure. As a result, unfortunately, ‘Hands of Time’ is one that has you counting down the seconds for it to end.
