EP Review: Danny Howard - Pumpin

Radio 1 presenter Danny Howard – a regular DJ at some of the biggest festivals including Hideout and Radio 1 in Ibiza, plays it safe with his new track ‘Pumpin’.

While the title implies an intense energy, ‘Pumpin’ falls a little flat. Although it starts well – it displays very little vitality, and definitely not enough to sustain the extended mix, which is also featured on the EP. That said – the Archie Hamilton remix manages to improve on the original, adding an electro edge that elevates the track to be an actual banger.

Unfortunately, ‘Pumpin’ itself is fairly forgettable. Although initially catchy, it is unlikely to have listeners going back again and again. There is still plenty of potential with Howard as a producer, as his other recent releases have shown his potential as an artist in his own right.

‘Beat Control’, released earlier this year, shows rather more style and flare, a reminder that Danny Howard is a class act. It is a shame that ‘Pumpin’ does not live up to this high standard.
